Window Coverings Safety Month

October is Window Coverings Safety Month. Parents and caregivers, please check all windows in your home for potential strangulation hazards on corded products, including mini blinds, cellular shades, roman shades, wood blinds, etc, especially if they were made before 2001.

Hunter Douglas has developed many operating systems for their products for enhanced child safety.

  • LITERISE CORDLESS SYSTEM - cordless push up, pull down system raises and lowers the product with the touch of a finger. No exposed lift cords and easy, convenient operation.
  • ULTRAGLIDE RETRACTABLE CORD - single retractable cord remains at a constant length when the product is not being operated, whether the shade is raised or lowered.
  • MOTORIZATION - battery or electric powered cordless operation with the touch of a button. Remote control operation or wall switch eliminates all lift cords for enhanced child safety.
  • NO OPERATING CORDS - products such as shutters feature operable louvers. Easy operation with no cords.

Dangers include dangling cords and cords that can be pulled large enough to form a hazardous loop.  There are many articles relating to the issue of child safety and window coverings. A leading child safety and information resource is the Window Covering Safety Council at windowcoverings.org
